Welcome to Danish by Design.

We are a family run business based in Melbourne and we import and distribute a great range of stylish, modern nursery furniture, infant products and toys.

Our aim is to offer Australian parents well designed products that not only look good but are super practical for both parent and child; products that have versatility and longevity and are great value.

How did it all start? Like many new mums, Gillian considered starting up a small home business to combine work and motherhood. While we were back in Denmark for our daughter’s first Christmas, we fell in love with the amazing range of products there and decided that we would like to make them available to Australian parents too.

Despite no knowledge of the retail industry or importing, Gillian started with the help of husband, Nigel and ordered the first shipment from Denmark in 2001. Fast forward and today Danish by Design is the proud distributor of many brands and has some serious celebrity clientele, including Nicole Kidman, Rebecca Judd, Mel B and Megan Gale!

Our team thrives on the challenge of trying to find more unique products to add to our range, preferably from Scandinavia. Each product we take on board has to match our design, function and quality standards. Parents appreciate good design and high quality and we know that our cots and other products are excellent choices. We also strive to be the best we can be regarding customer service and trust that your dealings with us will be a pleasure.

Looking to move premises again……….

2016
We now have a wide range of products and supply both nursery stores, toy stores, gift stores and pharmacies

2012

Nigel fully joins the business and we move once more to bigger premises to cater for new ranges.

2008
We move into our first proper warehouse in Sandringham and the office moves out of our home.

2006

The first Leander Cots arrive into Australia and they are all pre-sold.

2001

The first shipment of HandySitt portable highchairs arrive to our house with two small children looking on.

It has been a crazy but exciting journey so far. Products and brands have come and gone as one would expect just like our team has changed over the years but the one constant is the joy of working with quality products in a happy industry where we help excited new parents to prepare for the arrival of their baby.

We will continue in our little niche of high quality products, predominantly from Europe and supply stores and boutiques while also moving with the times and making our range available to you online. We look forward to helping you prepare for your baby.
